Introduction
Top Dictionary 2003 is a polished product, which took many
weeks of hard work to develop and thoroughly test. To the best
of my knowledge, Top Dictionary is the only Asian/English
dictionary of its kind! As you can see from the features
outlined below, Top Dictionary gives you significantly added
flexibility not found in other Asian/English type dictionary
software. I hope you find it very useful as a multi-language
translation tool or linguistic aid to study a foreign language.
Features
- Top Dictionary has built-in support for displaying
Japanese IME True Type fonts, as well as other Asian
language fonts. This unique feature enables a non-native
speaker to create numerous individual or specialized
multilingual Asian and non-Asian language dictionaries.
- The menus and dialogs are in English regardless of the
non-English dictionary you are creating or using with their
native fonts. This makes Top Dictionary easy to understand
so that you can quickly navigate throughout the program.
- Unlike most dictionary software whereby you can search
for but not alter the words or definitions, Top Dictionary
allows you to add, delete or modify any word and
translation. You can also incorporate your own words, along
with dictionary sized definitions! Furthermore, using the
Japanese IME for example, you can mix English letters with
Japanese katakana, hiragana and kanji characters in the
definitions.
- Top Dictionary has a searchable database to quickly
locate any entry or phrase. A right mouse click anywhere on
the main screen lists four individual copy selections to
choose from: word, translation, definition or a selected
portion of the definition. The copied information can then
be pasted it into any document.
- Top Dictionary is extremely versatile. It has menu
functions to change background skins, to select numerous
English and Asian True Type fonts, to modify individual
topic color patterns, to swap background skins, to update
“Favorites” dictionary name entries and more.
- Top Dictionary has a built-in hotkey function to
expediently show or hide the program in the system tray with
just one mouse click or a user set keyboard combination,
such as Ctrl+A.
- Individual entries can be bold faced, italicized,
underlined or resized similar to a word processing program.
Additionally, the word definitions can also be repositioned
or formatted the way you want to see them and, with a mouse
click on the center divider, viewed full screen for ease of
reading lengthy entries
